A very warm welcome
Welcome to Platt Bridge Community School, and thank you for visiting our website.
At Platt Bridge Community School, we are committed to providing a broad, well-balanced and relevant education that is enriched with visits, visitors and extended services. Our school is a modern, inclusive, non-denominational community school for children aged 2-11 years old.
We are committed to ensuring that every child entrusted to our care achieves their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment. At school, we strive to create an inspiring environment which enables everyone – children, staff and families - to flourish and achieve their aspirations. This is encapsulated in our school motto of Promotes Belief Creates Success’.
At Platt Bridge Community School, our overarching aim is for every child to be socially, emotionally and academically prepared for their next stage in education and life. We expect the highest standards from our children in all aspects of school-life including attendance, attitude, behaviour and achievement.
Education is a partnership between home and school - children learn best when home and school work together effectively and honestly. When your child starts school, our job begins and yours continues. A successful partnership between school and parents/carers is key in ensuring that your child enjoys their time at school, and they achieve their full academic and social potential. Parent/carer input is very much valued and sought after at school: we actively encourage strong links with our families and the community. Platt Bridge Community School was the first full service extended school within the Wigan authority, and as its name suggests, we strive to be at the heart of the community.
In February 2025 Platt Bridge Community School plans to join Achievement Through Collaboration Trust , a partnership of four schools across Blackpool, Blackburn, and Lancashire, and Kingsbridge EIP SCITT united by a shared commitment to putting children at the heart of everything we do.

Wording for GTT
Platt Bridge Community School is committed to promoting a culture of continuous improvement. Through using the Great Teaching Toolkit, teachers and leaders are actively engaged in self-directed professional development that draws upon the best available evidence to improve expertise in teaching in areas that make the most difference to pupils' experiences and outcomes. GTT provides a structure for teachers to collaboratively coach each other, focusing explicitly on their classroom practice and their individual challenges.
Wording for Research Mark award
Platt Bridge Community School have been successful in gaining 'Research Mark Plus' accreditation in the Chartered College of Teaching's pilot of the Research Mark standard. The award celebrates the hard work and commitment of staff, pupils and the wider school community. It demonstrates how all aspects of school, from culture and leadership through to classroom practice and wider collaboration have research engagement at the heart. We strongly believe an evidence-informed approach is essential in securing long-term success for pupils' learning, staff professional development and sustained school improvement.

Emotionally Friendly Schools (EFS) 2024-25
The Emotionally Friendly Schools (EFS) programme is a flexible, whole-school approach to improving children’s mental health and wellbeing. We chose to get involved with EFS because as a school we ensure our curriculum and experiences help to support our children and their emotional wellbeing.
We are proud to share that on 3rd August 2022 we achieved our Bronze EFS Accreditation, one of the first schools in Wigan to do so. This involved producing a portfolio of evidence which was assessed by a panel, sharing how we strive to ensure that our school is an emotionally friendly place to learn and work. The EFS Accreditation Panel said our strengths were the environment the children work in, the support we offer our children and the use of the EFS audit to guide us in our areas of strength.
We are now working to achieve our Silver EFS Accreditation, which involves providing further portfolio evidence, a school visit, and a focus group.
