Holiday Dates & ATtendance
All parents/carers have a duty to ensure that their child receives full time education and attends school regularly.
Parents/carers should not book a family holiday during term time. Whilst you may think this is beneficial, taking a holiday during term time means that children miss important school time and it will be difficult for them to catch up on their work.
If you take your child out of school during term time, you should notify the school in advance using the 'Pupil Absence Application Form' available from the main school office. Under the current regulations, a request for authorised leave of absence can only be approved when the circumstances are 'exceptional'. The need or desire for a holiday or other absence for the purpose of leisure and recreation would NOT be regarded as an exceptional circumstance.
Education Penalty Notices (EPN) will be issued by the Local Authority if absences meet the national threshold of 10 unauthorised sessions (ie 5 school days) within a rolling period of 10 school weeks which can span holidays and even school years. the school may record this as unauthorised absence. An EPN will beissued to each of the child's parents or carers resulting in a fine of £80 per parent/carer and per child. If you choose not to pay the fine the local authority may take legal proceedings against you.
