As a parent or carer, you naturally take a keen interest in your child’s education. Now here’s your chance to have a say in key decisions at our school and to make a real contribution to the local community... by becoming a Parent Governor.
As we currently have a vacancy for one parent governor and are seeking nominations for an enthusiastic and committed parent or carer to join the school's Local Academy Governing Board. Due to the successful term end of the current post holder.

Our school's Local Academy Board is supported by a Board of Trustees and are collectively responsible for decisions. The emphasis at Local Academy Board is very much on collaboration with other Governors and the Head of School in reviewing schools curriculum and work. The amount of time devoted to governance varies, but an average might be one to two Governing Body meetings per term, plus school visits into school as appropriate.
The core functions of the governing board are:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Holding senior leaders to account for the educational performance of the
- organisation, its pupils, and the performance management of staff.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
Our governors report that they derive a range of personal benefits from the work indeed, many find the role enormously rewarding and stay with the same school for years. Governors also report immense satisfaction that, in giving up a few hours a term, they can help make a real difference to children’s lives.
The term of office for all governors is four years. Governors currently meet as a board at least three times a year and meetings usually start at 17:00 and are finished around 19:00. All meetings are held at the school.
If you are interested in becoming a governor, self-nomination is acceptable – see attached form, which will need to be submitted to the school office by 12.00 noon on Friday 30th June 2023
If there are more nominations than vacancies, an election will be held w/c 3rd July 2023and all parents will be sent a voting paper.

Parent Governor VACANCY
Dear Parents and Carers
As the term of our current parent governor is coming to its end we have a vacancy for a parent governor to join our existing supportive team at Platt Bridge Community School.
The Local Academy Board has a strategic advisory role in the management of our school. Responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the long term strategic goals and the vision for the school are being met
- Ensuring high standards of achievement for every child
- Ensuring school finances are spent in the right places
- Recruiting staff
If all this sounds rather daunting, remember that school Governors are drawn from all walks of life and no specialist knowledge is required. A full induction, training and support will be offered and we welcome nomination from all backgrounds.
Parent governors are welcomed as valued members of the team and play a vital role in ensuring the Local Governing Body has parental insight into decision making. We are particularly interested in nominations from parents with experience of working or managing finances, commitment to learning, knowledge of safeguarding procedures, time to undertake Governor Visits to school.
When nominating yourself or someone else for the role of parent governor, you are nominating the person you believe has the skills and commitment to undertake the role. You are also nominating someone you trust to represent the views of parents when working with other governors and the headteacher, to promote high standards and strategically develop the school. The parent governor’s role is not to represent individual parents’ views or to report back directly to parents.
Training is available for all newly appointed Governors, and there is an expectation that you will attend these induction sessions within the first year of your appointment.

Nominations received after this date will not be accepted. Please provide a statement about why you would like to become a governor in no more than 100 words.
If there are more nominations than vacancies, an election will be held. All parents will be sent a voting paper with your name and statement and be asked to vote.
