Reading at home.24 September 2019 (by admin) |
As we start the new academic year, we thank you for your continued support with your child's learning. As you know, reading at home is an essential part of a child's development and as such is encouraged as often as possible.
In order to say thank you to those children and parents who read regularly at home, this year we will have 2 reward schemes in place for home reading.
Firstly, high 5. In order to get their high 5 treat, children need to have good attendance and punctuality, do their homework, wear correct uniform and bring their PE kit. In addition to these, reading is an important part of their high 5. In order to get their high 5 treat, we need to see evidence that children have brought their book into schools and read at least 3 times that week and that their reading record has been signed by you to evidence this.
In addition, to say thank you to our pupils and parents who read every day, we are also offering a 'Class of the Week' reward. To be in with a chance of winning this class reward, we look at the number of pupils in that class who have read, had their book signed and brought it into school every day that week. The class with the highest percentage of pupils who do this wins the treat!
Children don't have to read their full book every day - research shows just 5-10 minutes of reading every day is good for children's academic and social development.
Thanks, as ever, for your continued support in developing your children's learning. If you have any questions at all with regards to this, please ask your child's class teacher.
Warm Regards,
Mrs A. Howard
Head of School
